Browns stats you probably haven't seen, with good reason
Each year I update a little spreadsheet of Browns stats since their 1999 return. Don't ask me why. Maybe it's so I can, in excruciatingly exacting detail, understand just how it is that I am still waiting for a return to championship football...

The no-go logo
Nice piece of Browns history research here , with images you've likely not seen before, concerning the legendary "CB" logo that might've maybe almost nearly adorned (or befouled) the Browns' orange helmets in 1965. In his pursuit...

slavishly loyal to an undeserving organization?
Been a while, but the Browns' offense has awakened me by actually -- egad -- scoring! Anyway, this piece concisely traipses through the fallout of the curse of The Move. Worth a quick read.

Sandwich Browns
At the risk of treating a player like " a piece of meat ," I bring you this list of "sandwich" Browns, those who have taken two tours in Cleveland, interrupted by a stint with at least one other team. Quality standards require sandwichers...

New regime churn rate
The sole remaining Brown acquired in the PHD era (2001-04) was one of his most ridiculed choices, long snapper Ryan Pontbriand. The last pre-Butch player is kicker Phil Dawson. It's natural that a roster turns over as players age and as new regimes...

King's treat
Steve King, now writing for the OBR, types a tremendous piece, Deja Bill , among the best Browns articles I've ever read. Useful connections attach two generations and set the stage for Eric Mangini's turn as the Browns' head coach. Apt conclusion...

Unholy Toledo
I've long pined for the day that a former Toledo Rocket would take the field with the orange and brown for the first time in my memory. There was rookie GM Phil Savage's clever 2005 offer sheet to Chester Taylor , which the Ravens opted to match...

Orange alert
Historically, nothing has ticked off Browns' management more than losing to cross-state rival Cincinnati, the team founded by the exiled Browns' coach and namesake, Paul Brown. Let's review: 1984: Art Modell fires avuncular head coach Sam...

Seize the season
Prior to last season's breakout, the most improved Browns offense of the decade was in 2002. Though they ranked just 23rd in total yards, that was a far cry better than the dead last ranking of the previous three years. They snuck into the playoffs...

Eight Browns greats who never played
As training camp kicks off, my greatest concern is always injury. Talent, coaching, chemistry and all that do matter, but unfortunately it's those tough breaks that constitute the single biggest variable affecting a team's fortunes in any given...

Legends on the line
History buffs like me enjoy the idea of the Browns Legends Club. I have some quibbles with the selection methodology (fan voting counts for just 20%), presentation (the official site's navigation could be better), and even the results, but I enjoy...

Chew on this
If DB Jereme Perry makes the team and appears in a game for the Browns this season -- and his odds are pretty decent -- he will become the first "sandwicher" of the new Browns era. I use the term to mean a player who appears in a regular season...

Back forty
As someone born in 1968, I love this NFL Films video. Enjoy Warfield's grace, a ball-hawking secondary, a great period soundtrack, and gems like this from mouth of Gib Shanley : Twenty-six-year-old Milt Morin is the biggest, most effective tight end...

50 turns 51
The Browns think they may have landed something of a ringer by drafting Beau Bell in the fourth round. Time will tell, but today is as good a time as any to reflect briefly on another linebacker that the Browns acquired to play inside on their 3-4 defense...

Zahursky's dirty nose
Beat writer Steve Doerschuk has a nice blog post today, reflecting on some of the undrafted free agents of the Browns' recent past. Relive the brief but unforgotten Browns careers of Bill Duff, C.J. Jones, "Sweaty" Rob Smith, and Clint Stickdorn...
